Academic and Professional Background
  • Degree in Law in 1986 from the Law Faculty of Universidade Clássica de Lisboa.
  • In 1987, he did an internship in London, at the "CISBA CLUB P&I Club".
  • In 1988, he did an internship in Maritime Litigation at "DELMAS VIELJEAUX" in Paris.
  • In 1989 he attended a course on Heavy Breakdowns, in London, at "RICHARD HOGG INTERNATIONAL".
  • From 1994 to 1997 he was General Secretary of the Portuguese Shipping Agents Association and the Portuguese Shipping Agents Federation where he was in charge of solving some issues related to port inefficiency, port work, pilotage services, among others.
  • As General Secretary he always participated in the negotiations with the sector's unions not only to fix the annual salary increases but also for the revision of the collective labour agreement.
  • From 1996 to 2002, he was General Secretary of the "COMUNIDADE PORTUÁRIA DE LISBOA", an association made up of various associations connected to maritime port activities, in which he coordinated some work groups aimed at making ports more efficient.
  • In 1997 and 1998 I gave training at "FERNAVE", as part of a transport course.
  • Participated in several congresses in London related to Maritime Law.
  • He was a member of the National Commission for the Prevention and Combating of Illegal Procurement between 2004 and 2005.
  • Post-Graduate Studies in Tax Management at ISEG - Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão.
  • Co-founding member of the Securities Institute of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
  • Attended the postgraduate course in Fiscal Management of Organizations at the Instituto para o Desenvolvimento e Estudos e Económicos, Financeiros e Empresariais.
  • In 2008, he took a management master course for lawyers, which resulted from a partnership between Universidade Católica, Escola de Gestão Empresarial and Ordem dos Advogados.
  • In 2015, he participated in the IV Lisbon Maritime Law Conference, organised by the Labour Law Institute of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
  • He was secretary of several companies and is currently Chairman of the General Meeting of several companies.
  • He is currently an arbitrator at the Concordia Maritime Arbitration Centre.
  • He was invited to lecture in a post-graduation course on Maritime Law at the Portuguese Catholic University on the subject of "Accidents at Sea".
